Landing Page Conversion Tips

The two most important factors to a successful, money-making site are traffic and conversions. Clearly, a website that does not get any traffic can’t possibly be profitable but on the other hand, all the traffic in the world is no use if the website doesn’t convert visitors into buyers. Of course, getting a constant stream of new visitors is a base requirement for any kind of online success. But unless the website is designed in such a way that it converts those visitors into customers or subscribers, any traffic you get is wasted. Here are five things you can try on your website in order to enhance it’s effectiveness.

1. Place Your Main Converting Action Front And Centre

It’s crucially important to have a strong call to action on your homepage. There should be only one action that the visitor is encouraged to do and it should be front and center. For example, if your goal is to get people to sign up to your list, make sure that the opt-in form is very clearly visible and at least one benefit of subscribing is listed.

2. Test Positioning

On the sales-page or a bridge page for an affiliate product try placing the order-button and call to action below the fold. Placing an order-button and call to action further down on the page encourages visitors to read more of your content before they are confronted with a buying decision. Confronting visitors with the buying decision too early can lower your conversion rate. The idea here is to convince your prospect’s that the really want your product and not showing them the order-button before they have made up their mind about it.

3. Interaction

Test a multi-page setup against a single-page sales-letter. Having visitor is interact on your page, even if all the interaction consists of clicking through to the next page, can have a very positive effect on conversions.

4. Colours and Graphics

Test different colours for your text elements and the background. Tweet your font enter text size and to try a few different order-button colours. Just keep testing and you’ll often be surprised at how small such changes can make a big difference.

5. Subsciptions vs. Sales

Instead of sending visitors directly to the sales-page or your order page, make them sign up to your newsletter first, instead. Sometimes, making people jump through a few hoops will actually have a positive effect on conversions. Apart from that, having people on your mailing list gives you more chances to get in touch with them and pitch them an offer.

You probably recognize the common factor here: It’s that you can never test enough! Make sure that you have a good split-testing script in place, because that can make your life a lot easier. For a free option, you can try Google’s website optimizier and for WordPress sites, there’s a very practical plugin called WP Split Tester. Just keep in mind: If you aren’t running split tests, you may be missing out on a lot of earnings!

Is Wordpress In Truth The Best Application In Blogging?

Well, for a start, I have to say that most of the time the best blog system is without doubt WordPress. I will look later at when I think that other websites are better than WordPress, but why is it the best? Why do I use WordPress nearly every time I create a blog, either for myself or for my site design customers?

Well, for a start, it is free! What could be better than a great application, on hand for direct download without any need to register, that is totally free? Well, quite a lot. And WordPress, in my view, has it all and more.

I am talking here about the self-hosted version of WordPress, where you go to wordpress.org, download the latest version, obtain some hosting space and upload all of the files to your site via FTP. OK, that sounds thorny and is how my hosts have me doing it, but that does not always have to be the case.

With loads of hosts there are quick install options to quickly and easily install the latest version of WordPress. My hosts do not offer this, presumably because they are trying to sell their own blogging tool. Their paid for software offers no way near the functions of WordPress!

What makes it beat the competition, hands down? Well, its size unquestionably helps. Because it is free and excellent, plenty of people use it. A few of these people want customisation and, therefore, write their own pluggins. These are small applications that are easy to install and perform a basic function, such as extra search engine optimisation or a contact form.

Plenty of these pluggins are free to install and use, and add a great deal of functionality to your blog. Only by using WordPress can you benefit from these.

Also, there are numerous free themes available to choose from. These are basically templates that you can get, install and use for your blog. Without any design skills you can be showing off an excellent website that looks brilliant, does what you want it to do and offers a load of extra features.

But, when is WordPress not the best software? Well, for some people purchasing hosting space is out of the question and unnecessary. If your interest isn’t money making, say you just want to record the run up to an event or make a personal diary, then a free tool such a blogger without the huge array of styles and extra applciations might be all that you need.

Also, there are communities of blogs here and there. WordPress.com is one such community and I have a weblog, although very rarely used, that exists in a running community. These are amazing for personal blogs, such as my running blog which is supposed to record training and my charity fund raising. The community aspect means that other members of the community can quickly find your blog and you have an inbuilt audience.

But, for most people, whether wanting to earn a small income or weblog for their main business, then WordPress is the ultimate in blog tools.
