SEO Series – Part 1 – SEO Definition

Welcome to the first in the SEO Series-Part 1-SEO Definition. In this series of articles we will explore what Search Engine Optimization is, how you can implement it and how it can help you to dominate online with higher rankings, more visits and higher sales.

Definition of Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Many website owners feel that when they submit their website to search engines they’re just guaranteed success. That’s normally not the case. Merely submitting your web page to a search engine is just not always enough to generate any visitors. Most web pages require search engine optimization to be truly successful. Search Engines are all about their customers or users and that’s the way it be supposed to be. Their users are the people who use their service and Search Engines are seeking relevant content on sites to allow them to send their users to top relevant websites ensuring their visitors will return and use their service again and again.

Search engine optimization could be the art and science of creating web pages attractive for the search engines. The aim of SEO is to get your internet site ranked inside top ten online search visits that appear on the 1st page. Why is it best to be on the 1st page? It is vital as the common online user doesn’t click on any of the internet sites listed on the 2nd or third page. Out of sight, out of mind. One website owner reported a two hundred and ten percent increase on her e-commerce web site when she had her webpage redesigned for meet the needs of search engine optimization. You’ll consider that the prospect of a 200 and ten percent increase in revenue would be all the incentive a webmaster would need to redesign their web site.

I personally have experienced a dramatic rise in visits on a brand new website when I changed the theme of this website, not the content, just the template which is search engine optimized, again I stress, not any of the content. See the image below.

It illustrates that big improvements in visitors and sales with simply making a couple of minor modifications. It is a Word Press Blog of mine which has only been live for about 2 months. It needs plenty more content and search engine optimization work but it is already position number 32 in the world, but the goal is to be position 1-5 on front page in the next few months. Just imagine the visits on this web site then. It makes you think what can be done with the correct SEO.

Many people think that seo is simply too not easy to comprehend. The fact is that search engine optimization is quite easy. All it requires is just a little education and research and the majority are ready to rock.

Others think that there are simply too many things to learn before they are going to be ready to optimize their website. Seo is just like anything else. When you first begin, you know zero. With some homework and some trial and error and you’ll know exactly what it requires to create your web page accepted with the web crawlers.

Many people think that SEO will take up lots of their precious time. Those with this particular fear should keep in mind that old adage about time and money. If time spent optimizing your site results in an increase in revenue isn’t it time well spent? Besides SEO is simple, once you have the hang of it won’t add much to the time you’d already have to devote to updating your web site.

You don’t have to submit to all of search engines to reap the rewards of search engine optimization. If you have a big site you shouldn’t worry about spending a lot of time optimizing it and running the risk of never finishing the process. If you already have lots of content in your internet site it’s best just take things one step at a time. Give attention to optimizing on one page per day. Begin with your primary pages, or the pages that get the most visits and then consider less significant pages. Utilizing this one page a day method you won’t run the risk of sitting at your PC day and night and possibly give up because it seems all too difficult.

It might take some time and some trial and error to optimize your website but you might consider it time well spent when you see a rise in the quantity of traffic, higher ranking in search engines and increase in traffic will likely bring about more sales.

Ethically promoting your website ~ Part 3 ~ Paid Advertising

Welcome back to Ethically promoting your website. So far in this series we have looked at the following;-

Ethically promoting your website ~ Part 1 ~ URL Age

Ethically promoting your website ~ Part 2 ~ URL Indexing

In this installment we will briefly look at Pay Per Click as a paid form of advertising your website. In the next post of Ethically promoting your website we will explore free options for advertising.

Ethically promoting your website ~ Part 4 ~ Free Advertising

Website Promotion by Advertising

Advertising OnlineAfter your site is indexed then you can start promoting it through advertising. There are different ways to advertise. These can be free or can also be paid advertising, the choice is yours. It is generally recommended with a new site to have a number of different types of advertising to reach a larger audience and in this way increases traffic to your site. This does not mean that you will need to spend money, but there is some work to be done if you want to have all free advertising.

Paid Advertising ~ Pay Per Click (PPC)

The most well known form of paid advertising online is pay per click advertising where you pay a “click” fee each time some one clicks on your ad. The price of clicks can vary enormously from a few cents to hundreds of dollars. The different charges are related to the type of keywords you use (how popular those keywords are from search engine point of view) and the relevancy of those keywords on your site.

Pay Per Click AdvertisingYou can start advertising through pay per click “PPC” advertising where you set an account with the search engines who offer PPC advertising. The idea is that your account will have ads that you have written which are connected to keywords. Keywords are words or phrases that the search engines will recognize when people type in a particular keyword or phrase. For this exercise I will use a URL that is not registered just to illustrate the key points. The unregistered URL I have chosen is www.Timbuktuflowerdelivery.com. The key words that could be used Timbuktu flower delivery, flowers in Timbuktu, flower delivery in Timbuktu or Timbuktu flowers. There are many choices.

Below are some links to register for PPC with the major search engines.

Visit Google Adwords……………Visit Yahoo PPC Advertising…………..Visit Bing Advertising

Once you have register for PPC advertising you need to list your keywords and design your ads. Usually there are strict limits about the size and format of ads and also the amount of characters allowed. It’s usually 25 characters for the title and 35 for the description. The choices here are also endless, but if you want people to click on your ad then there has to be compelling reason for them to do so. Here is an example of what your ad might look like.

Plain type

Timbuktu Flower Delivery

Fresh flowers delivered same day

Guarantee. Daily specials. Order today!

www.TimbuktuFlowerDelivery.com

Or gratitude type

Timbuktu Flower Delivery

Say thanks with flowers. Hundreds to

choose from. Make her day!

www.TimbuktuFlowerDelivery.com

Or apology type

Timbuktu Flower Delivery

Say sorry with fresh flowers. It costs a little

and means a lot. Free home delivery.

www.TimbuktuFlowerDelivery.com

Or humor type

Timbuktu Flower Delivery

In the dog house? Try a ticket out with

Fresh flowers delivered today. Order now!

www.TimbuktuFlowerDelivery.com

Or using local slang / humor

Timbuktu Flower Delivery

Feel like an idiot? Fix it with Flowers.

She might forgive you. Buy now!

www.TimbuktuFlowerDelivery.com

You can see from these examples the keyword “Timbuktu” appears twice, the keyword “flowers” appears three times and the keyword “delivery” appears 2-3 times in each ad. All three keywords together which make a keyword phrase appear twice in each ad, in the heading and in the URL.

To compel the customer to click on your ad there are quotes like “daily specials”, “make her day”, “a ticket out” (of the dog house), “it cost’s a little and means a lot”, “free home delivery”, “hundreds to choose from”, “same day delivery”. Also there has been added statements like “say sorry” and “say thanks” the reason why I have added these types of statements is that many people find it hard to communicate, they know what they want to say, but don’t know to express it. Flowers are know universally for saying something and there is always the option of adding a small card with a personal message.

PPC Advertising You can be as creative as you like and it might surprise you to know that the humor and slang types of ad often receive higher click rates as they stand out from the many plain ads that all look pretty much the same and say the same kind of thing. The point to be made here is that writing good ads is in itself an art form, writing a good ad can take some time but the benefit is that writing a compelling ad can set you apart from the crowd.

Of course there are many other PPC advertising strategies that can be learned from a good internet marketing education through an affiliate online program like Sean Rasmussen’s “Year of the Affiliate” e book. Ethically promoting your website ~ Part 2 ~ URL Indexing

In the previous post titled “Ethically promoting your website Part 1″ we explored URL age and how that can effect your ranking on search engines. Today we are looking at getting your website indexed with the major search engines and what that means to your success as an affiliate.

URL indexing checklistURL Indexing is most important to your success as an affiliate or internet marketer.

URL indexing basically means that the major search engines know that your website exists and they can find you which means that others can find you too. The first thing you need to know is if your site is ready for indexing. There are a number of checklists that need to be completed before you want to get your URL or website indexed.

If you don’t complete checklists there maybe a number of problems with your site and it’s ability to rank with search engines. Completion of checklists ensure that there are minimal or no errors on your website. Errors on your site can lead to low rankings on search engines and may make you practically invisible online.

Website Links Strong? As a general rule search engines are not known for ranking sites well if there are errors. Some of the errors I speak of are not obvious, they may be a slight errors in the code which lies in the background of your website and is not visible to the eye when you look at your site. Other errors can include linking problems, which can be easily checked by you by clicking on your own links to make sure they work and take you to the desired page. There are a number of tools available online to help you check the quality of your site, point out

the errors so they can be fixed. The easiest way to gain access to the best tools and checklists is through involvement in a affiliate online program that can show you the step by step process. It can seem a complicated process to begin with but once you have gone through the step by step process a few times it is much easier.

When your website has been checked and you have corrected any mistakes or errors, all you need to do is submit your URL to the search engines. Your URL is the web name of your site address for example:- www.yourdomainnamehere.com.

Submit URL to Google………………….Submit URL to Yahoo..…………….....Submit URL to Bing

The above images link through to the websites listed to submit your URL. You will need to register your details to submit your URL with most of these services but it is free to do so. Online there are a number of services both paid and free who will list your site and submit your URL to search engines. Some will boast that they will list your site with hundreds of search engines, I believe that this is unnecessary as the three major players are listed above; for example Google currently holds 60-70% of the market share. URL indexing can take from a few days to several months. There are some excellent ways to fast track your site indexing and these techniques include knowing where and how to gain links for your site.

The easiest way to access this type of information is to gain an internet marketing education from a reputable internet marketer who has paved the way for new comers. Click on the linked image below to learn more about this affiliate online program.
