In almost every case I can promise you that they did not start by building a list of qualified leads interested in the benefits that they could offer.

Start making impressive sales the minute your products/services are ready.
Don’t make the mistake of setting yourself up for burnout when your product is ready to be sold and now you have the uphill battle of finding someone who’s interested.

You have had time to build a reputation.
Good marketing and a solid product can convert a hot, hungry prospect on the spot even if they have never heard of you. But if you are able to establish a reputation or better yet, build a trusting relationship with them first then you are all the more likely to be effective.

Many “sweat equity” marketing techniques are far more powerful after they have some time to get established.
This principal actually applies to all marketing efforts, but if you are using social media, article marketing, and newsgroups it is especially important to give them some time to make their mark.

Prospects can give you feedback to help you get on the right track early on.

When Good Internet Marketers Go Bad

The story you are about to read is fictional, but it can very well happen. In fact, it might very well happen to you. Hopefully, reading this will alert you to the problems when good marketers go bad.

Our fictional story begins with John Doe Internet marketer creating a name for himself by creating some excellent products and services. He becomes trusted in the community and he essentially is successful if not a multi millionaire. This is where the story turns bad.

Because of some unforeseen medical problems, this marketer becomes financially strapped. He needs some quick cash. So he does two things. The first thing he does is he creates a product really fast. He doesn’t really put the time into it that he should have and then to top things off, he sells it for a very high price. Because he has a good reputation, people buy this product from him on faith.

In addition to that, John Doe offers a special service for people. He offers to write sales letters for a rock bottom price. He ends up getting tons of orders…more than he can possibly fill in the time frame that he has promised they’d be completed in.

Let’s fast forward a little bit. The product that John Doe sold gets terrible reviews and a ton of refunds. Nobody can believe that somebody so trusted would put out something that was so terrible. This is the first blow to his reputation. The second, and fatal blow, comes when he doesn’t fill the orders that he took for salescopy and in addition to that…he doesn’t refund the deposits that he took.

As you’re reading this, you might be thinking that something similar to this has happened to you. Like I said, the story is fictional, but it’s not too far off the mark from some of the stories that I’ve heard over the years from quite a few people. Marketers who you’d never suspect, suddenly turned bad.

What do you think happened to these people? Well, if you go back through history (I won’t mention any names, but you know who I’m talking about) you know that these people literally had to disappear from the planet. One guy in particular ran off to some island last we heard.

I don’t have to tell you that this isn’t the legacy that you want to leave for yourself. The quick score isn’t worth it. It will totally wreck any chance of ever being trusted again. And let’s face it…nobody can live off of one big score…no matter how big it is.

So if you ever think of getting desperate because of some unforeseen complication in your life…think again.

I’m here to tell you, that no! There is not such thing as an internet marketing model that you can copy, sadly. Well, at least if there is one, I haven’t found it yet.

Do you know the main reason why those polished websites out there don’t make you any money? No matter how good they are at explaining something to you, however fancy their graphics are, the internet marketing model that they give you is not tailored to, oh I don’t know, you. Affiliate marketing is totally different for each and every person that gives it a go. All the great affiliate marketers out there don’t have the same system. They will have similarities, yes, but the fact is that affiliate marketing is a whole different game for each person.

Let me give an example to make these murky waters a little less cloudy. you purchase a $97 product that apparently will be able to teach you exactly how to make money on the internet for free! You say wow! The guide that you’ve bought is gorgeous, it really is. The guide contains a very detailed way of making it easy to article market, and you’re thrilled! Eagerly you put it into action, forget a couple of weeks later, and bye bye $97, plus all the time you spent getting your stuff up and running.

The fact is, in this example you are not given enough creative control over the campaign. No amount of explaining will ever be able to give you the help and support that you need to develop the problem solving skills that you need to become a great affiliate marketers. Not all the top affiliate marketers are very smart (sorry all who are great!) but they do know how to put together a campaign that kicks anything that anyone else could put together.

Yes, learn from the masters. Everyone should do that. Everyone needs somewhere to start, so don’t believe those people that say that they started from nothing. You need to start off with an internet marketing model that doesn’t suck too much. Fact is, you have all you need right between your ears. So stop procrastinating and get earning. You can.
